Abstract
In this work, a prototype for vehicle data collection and analysis based on OBDII protocol is built with only using consumer grade hardware and open-source software. Real-time data via the OBDII port on most any modern vehicle can be retrieved and stored for use later. Potential uses of this data are general data logging and tracking, machine learning, vehicle diagnostics, and fine tuning in performance driving tasks. The data may also be used to compare multiple driver’s performances in the same vehicle. This work focuses on vehicles pre-2008 when the modern CAN-Bus was not mandatory in the United States.
