Abstract

Mobile Applications (apps) have potential to provide better health management support being a representative case the support to the Alzheimer’s patient and respective informal caregiver. This study has two objectives: (1) content and usability analysis of existing applications and wider solutions for support and monitoring by family or informal designated person; (2) the proposal and discussion of an architecture able to integrate several sensors and technologies for the development of a support and monitoring solution for the informal caregiver and Alzheimer’s patient. The technology necessary for the development of the proposed solution already exists in the market with proven and consistent results, so a solution can be obtained to fulfil many existing needs without implying high operational costs. All solutions studied can help the patient at early stages of the disease but not in later stages.
