Abstract
This paper describes the experience gained and the results achieved developing and integrating a protocol stack for IPv6 over ATM networks with Quality of Service (QoS) support based on the Integrated Services model defined by IETF. This work, which constitutes one of the first implementations of such protocol stack over Windows NT operating system, was developed as part of the authors’ contribution to European funded Broadband Trial Integration (BTI) ACTS Project1. The paper focuses on the description of the technologies selected in BTI to provide QoS over a residential access network, and on the main characteristics of the protocol stack developed as well as the problems faced and the technical solutions applied. Finally, some conclusions about the experience are presented.
This work has been partially supported by the EU Commission under the ACTS project 362.
