Inspiration
[edit]Sharing the sum of all knowledge will not happen until everyone has access to all forms of knowledge. The visually curated knowledge is an area that needs more exploration in our projects, and Wikipedia project constrains the prospects of visual content.
The Inuka team sees an opportunity around underrepresented knowledge transcended in diverse ways, the type of knowledge favouring representation as a visual experience.
Culture, Art, Heritage, History and Language topics lend itself to this kind of visual representation, as seen in various photo essay campaigns done on Commons:
case study 1: Wiki Loves Africa 2017 photo essay 'The Making of Thatch'
case study 2: Wiki Loves Monuments 2021 Winner UNESCO training in building audiovisual archives with wiki tools
Wikimedia Commons is an excellent platform that provides upload and discoverability of licensed media files in different languages.
The Inuka team has begun conceptualising Wikistories on Commons as a visual tool that allows contributing and consuming underrepresented knowledge.

Design exploration
[edit]Achievements of Wikistories on Wikipedia
[edit]Wikistories product initiative started in the 21-22 fiscal year. The team developed the Wikistories for the Wikipedia project, a tool that will help underserved users create visual representations of encyclopedic content quickly and easily for visual learners. We worked with the Indonesian Wikimedia Community to develop this product. Currently, Wikistories is on Indonesian Wikipedia as a Beta feature with 107 editors and 184 stories created between July and mid-September, 2021. It is also on the Testwiki.
