Candid gets you the information you need to do good.
Candid is a nonprofit that provides the most comprehensive data and insights about the social sector.
Every year, millions of nonprofits spend trillions of dollars around the world. We find out where that money comes from, where it goes, and why it matters. Through research, collaboration, and training, Candid connects people who want to change the world to the resources they need to do it.
We envision a social sector capable of tackling the critical challenges and opportunities of our time. Building for this future, Candid provides information in Foundation Directory that helps nonprofits find funders to support their work. Conversely, funders look to GuideStar to verify and research nonprofits that are aligned with their priorities.
Candid was formed in 2019 when GuideStar and Foundation Center merged. For details on Candid’s programs, financials, operations, and more, visit our nonprofit profile, download our , and see our annual report.

FAQs
I work at a nonprofit. How can Candid help me?
Candid supports nonprofits with information, resources, training, and data to find funding opportunities, determine which funders are most likely to support their work, and become more visible to donors. We offer:
- Nonprofit profiles and Seals of Transparency: Candid offers a common online profile that can be updated, for free, by any tax-exempt organization. When an organization claims its profile and earns a Seal of Transparency, it becomes more visible not just on Candid's site, but also on more than 200 partner platforms including Facebook, Network for Good, and donor advised funds. Organizations earn Seals of Transparency by contributing information about their mission, staff and leadership, programs, goals, and more. A Seal of Transparency is also a nonprofit’s first step to becoming eligible for Apple Pay for donations. Learn more about Seals of Transparency.
- Foundation Directory: Nonprofits supercharge their funding searches with Foundation Directory. Access detailed data on foundations, including giving history, location, type, size, open requests for proposals (RFPs), and more to determine which funders are the best fit. Learn more about Foundation Directory.
- Access to our tools and trainings locally: Our network of nearly 400 affiliated libraries, community foundations, and other nonprofit resource centers provides free access to Candid’s tools and support for local nonprofits in the U.S. and globally. Find a location near you.
- Training for nonprofits: Candid Learning provides live and on-demand training to improve your fundraising and nonprofit management skills. We offer nearly all training for free. Candid can also work with your organization to build a training experience. Outcomes can include the development and peer review of a fundraising plan, proposal, or case for support. Why does Candid charge for its data and services?
Candid is the trustworthy nonprofit source for the freshest, highest-quality data on the social sector. Over 99% of people who access data from Candid do so for free, and we have 3 million users registered for our free offerings.
We also offer enhanced, best-in-class data for those with deeper analytical needs for a fee. This earned income enables Candid to both provide the vast majority of our data for free and build the technology and infrastructure necessary to make sense of more complicated, nuanced data. Candid’s technology teams strive to provide meaningful, useful experiences that ensure a return on investment that empowers a stronger social sector.
The social sector deserves world-class data, which requires ongoing, significant investment generated from Candid’s product subscription fees. At the same time, we agree that small nonprofits shouldn’t have to pay to get the information they need to do good. To remove cost barriers and ensure equitable access, Candid continuously offers small nonprofits free access to our tools through promotions and special programs.
