Angled Adapters

  • How can I tell the difference between a v1.0 and a v1.1 adapter?
On the sticker located on the rear of the packaging, you will find that the v1.1 adapters have v1.1 in the description. The part number also differs.
If you don't have the packaging, you can tell the v1.1 adapters by looking at the side of the adapter, and locating the stabilization pins which are visible on the side of the PCB. v1.0 adapters do not have these stabilization pins:
  • How are the Angled Adapters color coated?
Our Angled Adapters are anodized except for white which is powder coated.
  • The male connector on my adapter has a slight wobble compared the female connector. Is this normal?
Yes - this is completely normal and is not a sign of a defective or damaged adapter.
  • I don’t see my graphics card listed on the compatibility page. Will your adapters work for me?
If you don’t see your card listed on the compatibility page, it doesn’t mean that the adapters won’t work. We are in contact with major AIB partners to receive models of their GPUs. Once we have confirmed compatibilities, we will update the compatibility page as soon as possible.
  • Are there any graphics cards that are confirmed not to work?
Graphics cards that do not work with any of our adapter variants will be listed and updated on our compatibility page as more information is gathered.
  • What does “cooler side” and “backplate side” on the compatibility page refer to?
Here we are describing which direction the cable will end up being once the adapter is installed into your graphics card. Cooler side means that the cable points towards the GPU cooler. Backplate side means that the cable runs along the GPU backplate.
  • I’m an AIB partner. How can I connect with CableMod?
If you would like to reach out to our development team, please send an email to partners [at] cablemod [dot] com.

12VHPWR / PCIe Gen 5 / ATX 3.0

  • My Pro Cables didn’t come with any Cable Combs. What gives?
Your Pro cables will come pre-installed with our premium closed cable combs. If you don't see them on your cables, then please check near the power connectors as they are usually shipped bunched together and sometimes blend in. The following cables will have pre-installed combs: 24-pin ATX cable - 3 Pro Combs 8-pin EPS cable - 2 Pro Combs 16-pin to 16-pin PCI-e cable - 5 Pro Combs 8 Pin PCIe cable - 3 Pro Combs 6 Pin PCIe cable - 3 Pro Combs You will also receive hybrid combs for your 4+4 EPS cable. 2 x 8-pin Hybrid cable combs 2 x 4-pin Hybrid cable combs
  • What is a 12VHPWR connector?
12VHPWR is the new power connector used for the new PCIe Gen 5 specification graphics cards, such as the NVIDIA 40 Series. This connector enables a power delivery of up to 600W.
  • Why are graphics cards using this new connector?
This connector delivers a higher power output in a smaller area, which means that these don't take up as much PCB space as the older 6 and 8-pin PCI-e connectors.
  • Which PSUs support these new cables?
For the new 40 Series GPUs, NVIDIA has released minimum PSU requirements. Please see the table below:
    GPU TGP Min. PSU Wattage
    GeForce RTX 4090 450W 850W
    GeForce RTX 4080 16GB 320W 750W
(The GPU formerly known as) GeForce RTX 4080 12GB 285W 700W
  • What types of 12VHPWR cables do you offer?
CableMod offers both 12VHPWR adapter cables, and 12VHPWR direct cables. Our adapter cables are used with PSUs that currently do not have a 12VHPWR port (i.e. ATX 2.0), while direct cables are for PSUs that do (i.e. ATX 3.0).
  • What is the difference between 2 x 8-Pin, 3 x 8-Pin, and 4 x 8-Pin 12VHPWR cables?
The 2 x 8-pin, 3 x 8-pin, and 4 x 8-pin versions of our 12VHPWR cables will work with the new NVIDIA 40 Series GPUs, provided your PSU meets or exceeds the minimum wattage requirements. The reason we offer all of these is for users who want extra redundancy for the power being supplied to their GPU.
  • Don’t PCI-e ports only provide up to 150W per port? How is it that a 3 x 8-pin (or 2 x 8-pin for that matter) cable can be sufficient to power GPUs that require up to 600W at peak?
In truth, an 8-pin PCI-e port on modern PSUs can supply over 300W of power each (up to 342W, depending on model). Thus, two 8-pin PCI-e ports are more than enough to provide the required 600W. We provide both 3 x 8-pin and 4 x 8-pin versions of this cable for extra redundancy. **Please note that all 8 Pin PCI-e plugs need to be plugged in for the cable to function properly. If you order a 2 x 8-pin, 3 x 8-Pin, or 4 x 8-Pin to 16-Pin, make sure that all of the 8-pin connectors are connected correctly to your PSU.**
  • Are your 12VHPWR cables made with crimped terminals or soldering?
All of our 12VHPWR cables use crimped terminals at each connector.
  • Do your 12VHPWR cables have the required sense pins? How many are there?
Yes - all of our 12VHPWR cables come with the two required sense pins to signal 600W capability. The other two sense pins currently do not have any function, and are not required.
  • Does having only three 8-pin connectors mean I won’t be able to overclock?
That is not the case - both of our 3 x 8-pin and 4 x 8-pin can deliver the full 600W if requested by the GPU. This is assuming your PSU wattage is adequate according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Do your 12VHPWR cables come with an integrated IC like the official adapter?
No, our 12VHPWR cables do not have this IC, and it is also not required to deliver the required wattage. Our cables do have the necessary sense wires to provide up to 600W, and will work with the new 40 Series with no issues, provided that your power supply has sufficient wattage.
  • How much space do I need from the GPU to my case’s side panel to accommodate this cable?
You will need around 4 - 4.5 cm of space in order to account for the cable bend. We recommend not making extreme bends with this cable too close to the connector.   For more on this, please visit this link: https://cablemod.com/12vhpwr/
  • What is the function of the cable shroud? Is the shroud reversible/removable?
The cable shroud is meant to cover up the sense wires on the 12VHPWR connector for a cleaner look. The shroud is entirely removable if you would prefer not to use it. However, it is not reversible due to the locking latch on the connector itself.
  • Can these 12VHPWR cables be used with the 3090Ti?
Yes - you can use these cables to power the 3090Ti.
  • What wire gauge is used for these 12VHPWR cables?
We use exclusively 16AWG wire for power delivery on all of our 12VHPWR cables to comply with the official PCI-e specification. The sense wires, which are not responsible for power delivery, use 28AWG. Please note that due to the increased thickness of 16AWG wire, our 12VHPWR cables only come in Pro variants. We are unable to make Classic 12VHPWR cables.
  • How many connects are the connectors guaranteed for?
The official rating of the connectors are rated for up to 30 cycles. This is actually the same as the previous generation of 6-pin and 8-pin PCI-e connectors.

PSU Cables

  • What metal is used in our PSU cables?
Our PSU cable wires are made of pure copper.
  • How can I tell the difference between PCI-e and EPS cables?
The way to tell the difference between PCIE cables and EPS cables is that PCIe cables will have a bridged terminal while EPS will not.

  • What are bridged cables? What are dual cables?
Bridged cables are essentially multiple single cables joined together with a single cable comb to make them appear like one cable for a cleaner look. They have an equal number of connectors on both ends, and are available on our Pro cables as an option. Dual cables have one connector at the PSU end, and two connectors at the component (GPU/CPU) end. Dual cables are a good option for PSUs with limited ports, and are available as an option on our Classic cables.
  • Why do some of my cables have wires crossing?
Due to the pinouts on the PSU, sometimes we have to route wires to specific pins so the proper voltage is sent to the proper pin. This is normal and we try to keep it as clean and close to the PSU end as possible.
  • I’ve seen some slight color differences with some sleeve colors across the site – what gives?
While we strive to be as accurate as we can with the colors represented, a slight change lighting can shift the color temperature of the photos, which leads to newer photos looking different than older ones, and vice versa.
To help you with this, please click here:
    Sleeving Gallery
  • Why is there a cable missing on my 24 pin ATX cable? Is this normal?
The missing wire is actually normal as per the "phantom terminal" which is an unused connection on the ATX motherboard. This connection is usually on the underside of the cable so it wouldn't be visible. This motherboard connection was removed many years ago so there is no pin in the slot.
  • Do you include capacitors on your cables?
We no longer put capacitors in our cables due to customer feedback. The capacitors don't make any difference in performance, but made a big difference in aesthetics, which is why we no longer include them.
  • What is the difference between ModFlex, ModMesh, and SFF cables?
ModFlex is our softer, more flexible sleeving option. ModMesh is our stiffer, more vibrant sleeving option, which is also UV reactive, as well as a more durable sleeving type. Our SFF cables are a flexible but sturdy unsleeved cable meant for small form factor builds that require shorter cables that take up less space. Here are the differences in wire measurements: ModFlex: 3.0mm ModMesh: 3.0mm PRO (ModFlex and ModMesh): 3.4mm SFF(Unsleeved): 2.1mm/1.8mm
  • So what makes CableMod cables different?
Our cables are made from the finest grade materials, and carefully constructed to be the highest quality cables around. Everything from the choice of materials to the spacing between connectors has been considered. For more details, check out this handy comparison.
  • Are CableMod cables compatible with X power supply?

For our keyboard cable to work with your keyboard it must have a detachable cable and an opening around the USB connector of the following dimensions: Length: 36mm Width: 10.95mm Height: 6mm
  • Keyboard cable wire gauge and USB spec
Our keyboard cables use 24 AWG for the power wires and 28 AWG for data transfer over USB 2.0.
  • How long can a keyboard cable be?
The maximum length we recommend and offer is 15 feet to prevent keyboard functionality issues for common keyboards. If the cable is too long then the keyboard may not be detected or the LEDs won’t properly illuminate. Some keyboards need more power which requires a shorter cable length to make the keyboard function properly. The following keyboards are known to require more power which will require a shorter cable (7 feet): HHKBs, Input Club’s K-Type, Massdrop’s CTRL/ALT/SHIFT, Ducky One 2 Mini
  • Keyboard cable QDC compatibility
Cables with detachable connectors like the Aviator and Slimline may not be compatible with detachable cables from other vendors.  Attempting to use a competitor’s QDC with ours may result in hardware damage.

Controller Cables

  • What is the data transfer rate of the custom controller cables?
Our controller cables are USB 2.0, and designed for use with Playstation 5, XBOX Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. They aren't suitable for devices such as VR headsets, which require USB 3.0.

Charging Cables

  • Does our charging cable support quick charge?
If your cable is no longer than 2m it'll be able to support QuickCharge. Unfortunately if you go longer than 2m the cable will not be within spec to support Quick charge. Here are the amperages based on the length of the cable, for Quick Charge it needs to be able to handle 3A: 1m - 4A 2m - 3A 3m - 2A

  • Is it possible to cut my WideBeam LED Strip to make it shorter? Where should I cut it?
WideBeam LED Strips can be cut shorter if you like. To do so, make sure that you cut in places where you have a group of three LEDs with resistors: cm_led_cut_lines Please note that if you don't cut in one of these four locations, some LEDs will stop working. For the WideBeam Magnetic Series, this will be trickier as there will be magnets in these locations. We recommend avoiding cutting the magnets themselves and instead cut beside the magnets: cm_mag_led_cut_lines Once cut, we recommend applying silicone glue on the cut ends to maintain the strip's waterproof properties.
