hi all,
Think the following
scenario:
- One sccm 2007 sp2 R2 server and one other server with WSUS fully installed but not configured at all.
- The WSUS server is the only server with an internet connection.
Issue:
- Configured sccm to point to the wsus server and when do a synchronise it completes successfully and all the latest updates are listed.
- Then try to either select some patches and download or deploy them and both methods fail regardless of whether i tell sccm to download from the internet or the the network location \\server\\wsuscontent.
- It syncs fine, just never downloads the updates.
CAUSE:
-
Patches are never downloaded by the SUP(WSUS). Patch download is a manual process initiated by using the SCCM console. Note that the console can be remote from the ConfigMgr server to get around the connectivity configuration that you've described.
- The sync is only for the update catalog/metadata, not patches. You must download from an alternate source; the files in WSUSContent are not the droids that you are looking for. The easiest thing for you to do is to install the ConfigMgr console on an internet connected system and initiate the downloads from there to the Internet. The download is actually performed on the system where the console is and using the credentials of the user logged into the console. These pacthes are then copied to the package source folders that you specify using the computer account credentials from the computer hosting the SMS Provider.
Solution:
You can install the admin console on any remote system, including your local PC to manage ConfigMgr. And the console computer must have internet connection. Installing the admin console remotely has no effect on your server/site configuration.
