3D support for X11 guests Our 3D support for X11 guests is a bit of a dilemma for us. There are many, many issues which would be relatively easy to fix. Individually each one might be a day or two's work for a developer. Unfortunately it does not really make sense to address them individually, and just now none of our developers has much time to spend on this. Since a lot of the problems are thing

VirtualBox test builds Here we provide you with regularly updated links to recent builds. If one of these links does not work at any time feel free to ask us to update it on IRC or the development mailing list. See below for information about installing Linux packages. Regularly installing stable or development test builds and using them in your day-to-day work is one of the best ways you can help
I ran into an issue where when I change a file on/in a shared folder, the change is not seen when I serve up the file through a webserver (e.g. nginx). I originally reported this with vagrant, but they directed me here. I tried 4.0.8 of course already. This issue is present on at least two operating systems (Linux und MacOSX). The guest in both cases was Linux (Ubuntu Karmic 9.10). I can provide
I am using Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate and use VirtualBox 4.3.20 r96997. After today's Windows updates VirtualBox fails to start any VM (I tried Windows, Linux, FreeBSD). The GUI presents the following error: Errorcode: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Machine Interface: IMachine {480cf695-2d8d-4256-9c7c-cce4184fa048} The VM startup logs all show an error with crypt32.dll. I am attaching three logs. P
I'm running the Ubuntu 14.04 final beta, with a Windows 8.1 x64 host with 3D acceleration enabled. Ubuntu reports normal 3D drivers via glxinfo and such, but it doesn't show 3D effects, runs slow, and indicates that 3D rendering failed if I try to actually run any 3D program. I've included the error log from glxinfo below. Note that this does work fine with Ubuntu 13.10 on the same host. libGL err
As the virtual machine will most probably expect to see a hard disk built into its virtual computer, Oracle VM VirtualBox must be able to present real storage to the guest as a virtual hard disk. There are presently three methods by which to achieve this: Oracle VM VirtualBox can use large image files on a real hard disk and present them to a guest as a virtual hard disk. This is the most common m

This chapter provides detailed steps for configuring an Oracle VM VirtualBox virtual machine (VM). For an introduction to Oracle VM VirtualBox and steps to get your first virtual machine running, see Chapter 1, First Steps. You have considerable latitude when deciding what virtual hardware to provide to the guest. Use virtual hardware to communicate with the host system or with other guests. For e
Hi All, Because more and more virtualization software requires VT (Intel VMX or AMD-V) to run, it makes sense to virtualize it somehow. (at least if host CPU supports hardware VT) It will allow the following software to run in guests: -Xen (full virtualization mode) -KVM -Hyper-V -Windows Virtual PC -- this is basically a requirement for those who wanna run Windows 7 "XP mode". i.e. It allows for

Oracle VM VirtualBox can display virtual machines remotely, meaning that a virtual machine can execute on one computer even though the machine will be displayed on a second computer, and the machine will be controlled from there as well, as if the virtual machine was running on that second computer. For maximum flexibility, Oracle VM VirtualBox implements remote machine display through a generic e
Welcome to Oracle VM VirtualBox. Oracle VM VirtualBox is a cross-platform virtualization application. What does that mean? For one thing, it installs on your existing Intel or AMD-based computers, whether they are running Windows, macOS, Linux, or Oracle Solaris operating systems (OSes). Secondly, it extends the capabilities of your existing computer so that it can run multiple OSes, inside multip
Licensing: Frequently Asked Questions This page deals with questions you may have about VirtualBox and its licensing. This information is accurate for VirtualBox 5.2 and later. You may want to look at the User FAQ and Developer FAQ for additional topics. How is VirtualBox licensed? The VirtualBox base package contains the full VirtualBox source code and platform binaries and is licensed under the
As mentioned in Section 3.9, “Network Settings”, Oracle VM VirtualBox provides up to eight virtual PCI Ethernet cards for each virtual machine. For each such card, you can individually select the following: The hardware that will be virtualized. The virtualization mode that the virtual card operates in, with respect to your physical networking hardware on the host. Four of the network cards can be
Oracle VM VirtualBox provides Guest Addition modules for Windows, Linux, and Oracle Solaris to enable automated logins on the guest. When a guest operating system is running in a virtual machine, it might be desirable to perform coordinated and automated logins using credentials passed from the host. Credentials are user name, password, and domain name, where each value might be empty. Windows pro
As briefly mentioned in Section 1.18, “Alternative Front-Ends”, VBoxManage is the command-line interface to Oracle VM VirtualBox. With it, you can completely control Oracle VM VirtualBox from the command line of your host operating system. VBoxManage supports all the features that the graphical user interface gives you access to, but it supports a lot more than that. It exposes all the features of
Advanced Network settings for Linux Contributed by Jean-Jacques Sarton, 2007/03/21 The virtual machine may be fully integrated into the network and you may have access between all virtual machine and the host if you do a little bit more. A bridge can contain only one physical/virtual device. So you can create your bridge as follow: #!/bin/sh # set PATH for the case we are called via sudo or su roo
Download VirtualBox for Linux Hosts Note: The package architecture has to match the Linux kernel architecture, that is, if you are running a 64-bit kernel, install the appropriate AMD64 package (it does not matter if you have an Intel or an AMD CPU). Mixed installations (e.g. Debian/Lenny ships an AMD64 kernel with 32-bit packages) are not supported. To install VirtualBox anyway you need to setup

How to migrate existing Windows installations to VirtualBox Disclaimer: Migration of Windows guests from a physical host into a VirtualBox VM is not supported. These instructions are provided as-is in the hope that they are helpful. Windows installations, unlike Linux, cannot easily be moved from one hardware to another. This is not just due to Microsoft's activation mechanism but the fact that th
Frequently Asked Questions for end users (User FAQ) Here you can find common questions, frequently asked on the VirtualBox mailing lists and IRC channel, along with their answers.
