We hope one day all animals in Japan will be able to live safely, free from discomfort, abuse and fear.
Animal Welfare Japan provides financial support to help combat animal cruelty and neglect in Japan. We raise funds in the UK, which are used to develop a humane approach to animal welfare in Japan.
We aim to:
ENCOURAGE a greater awareness of, and compassion for, animals in Japan
SUPPORT the vital work of our sister society, the Japan Animal Welfare Society and its branches throughout Japan
SUPPORT animal welfare groups in Japan that provide services in local areas
PROVIDE crucial funding for training of animal welfare inspectors in Japan
FUND animal welfare seminars to promote awareness and improvements in current animal welfare legislation
PROVIDE funds for vital equipment, including: veterinary drugs; humane cat traps; and animal handling facilities
PROMOTE and achieve the implementation of the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare throughout Japan.
The Five Freedoms
Animal Welfare Japan believes there are rights every animal is entitled to – these are known as The Five Freedoms:
1
Freedom from thirst, hunger and malnutrition – by supplying access to fresh water and a healthy diet
2
Freedom from discomfort – by providing a suitable environment, including shelter and a comfortable resting area
3
Freedom from pain, injury and disease – by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment
4
Freedom to express natural behaviour – by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and the company of the animal’s own kind where appropriate
5
Freedom from fear and distress – by ensuring conditions and treatment that avoid mental suffering.
Can you help?
We’re working hard to help support the day-to-day rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of sick, injured and abandoned animals.
We rely on your generous donations to continue our work. Every donation makes a difference and is used to help animals in Japan. Will you make a difference today?
