Interpreter Mode for Business Additional Terms of Service

To use Interpreter Mode for Business, you must accept (1) the Google Terms of Service and (2) these Interpreter Mode for Business Additional Terms of Service (the “Interpreter Mode for Business Additional Terms”).

Please read each of these documents carefully. Together, these documents are known as the “Terms”. They establish what you can expect from us as you use our services, and what we expect from you.

Although it’s not a part of these Terms, we encourage you to read our Privacy Policy to better understand how you can update, manage, export, and delete your information that we collect.

A Japanese version of these Terms is available hereTerms translated version. The English version will govern to the extent of any conflict, and to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Definitions

“Activated Devices” means devices that you activate in Interpreter Mode for Business.

“Interpreter Mode for Business” is a configuration for eligible devices (as described in the Interpreter Mode for Business Policies) that allow them to be used in public locations for translating live conversations.

“Interpreter Mode for Business Policies” means the documentation, instructions, policies, or requirements related to Interpreter Mode for Business that Google makes available to you, including at https://assistant.google.com/interpreter-mode/policies.

Authorization

You represent and warrant that you (a) either own or have permission from the owner of the place where you deploy Activated Devices, and (b) have the authority to agree to these Terms.

Your Obligations

You will comply at all times with these Terms and the Interpreter Mode for Business Policies.

Google may immediately suspend or terminate your access to Interpreter Mode for Business if Google reasonably believes (a) you are not complying with these Terms; or (b) your Activated Devices are being improperly accessed.

Using Activated Devices

Purpose. You will use Activated Devices primarily to translate live conversations between individuals. You will not use, or allow any third party to use, Activated Devices in any medical, health, or life-threatening situation (for example, to translate descriptions of allergens or medications).

Locations. You will use Activated Devices only in Google-approved territories and at Google-approved locations (each as described in the Interpreter Mode for Business Policies or as approved by Google in writing on a case by case basis). You will not use any Activated Device where it is likely to be exposed to Protected Health Information (as defined under the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, as amended), for example, in medical facilities.

Notices. At Google's request, you will prominently display a notice (such as a physical sticker and/or attached card) about each Activated Device, including a statement that its use is subject to the Google Terms of Service (https://policies.google.com/terms) and that Google’s collection and use of information is described in Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). Google will specify the form, substance, and placement of the notice, and may make changes to the notice at any time at its discretion, including to define the product experience or attract attention to the Activated Device.

Translation Sessions. You or your personnel:

  • must be one of the participants in any translation session that uses Activated Devices;

  • will tell the other participants that you are using Interpreter Mode for Business and will place Activated Devices prominently in front of them (with screen or LED lights facing them at all times without obstruction); and

  • will stop using the Activated Device with an end user if the end user indicates that they want you to stop.

No Interference. You will not interfere, or allow any third party to interfere, with:

  • end users’ queries or instructions (e.g., voice, click, or other input) to Activated Devices (e.g., by processing, routing, or editing the queries);

  • Google’s responses to end users; or

  • any visual or audio terms, policies, or disclaimers that Activated Devices provide to end users.

No Recording or Storage. You will not, and will not allow any third party to, record or store any end user queries or instructions in connection with Activated Devices.

Personal Data

You will not share any Personal Data with Google in connection with Interpreter Mode for Business unless you and Google have entered into a separate Personal Data processing agreement in advance. “Personal Data” has the meaning given to it in the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 27, 2016. End users may share Personal Data with Google through their use of Activated Devices in the course of normal operation of the Activated Devices as permitted under these Terms and that such use will be subject to our Privacy Policy.

Misleading Statements; Representations and Warranties

You will not make any unauthorized, false, misleading, or illegal statements in connection with Interpreter Mode for Business. You will not make any representations or warranties on Google’s behalf, including about Interpreter Mode for Business or Activated Devices. Google will not be responsible for your representations or warranties.
