The authors propose a novel book-shaped device for flipbooks called Paranga that embodies both physical features of paper and e-book interactivity. Paranga detects how quickly a user is riffling and provides the user with visual, tactile, and auditory feedbacks of turned pages by employing an LCD monitor and a rotatable roller mechanism with pieces of real paper. Using this device, the authors created several electronic flipbook installations in which the story changes depending on page-turning speed. This paper details the implementation of this device, describes the users\u2019 reactions at a conference exhibition, and discusses Paranga's possible applications.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijcicg.2013010102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2013,9,9]],"date-time":"2013-09-09T12:56:11Z","timestamp":1378731371000},"page":"21-34","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Paranga"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"4","author":[{"given":"Kazuyuki","family":"Fujita","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Osaka University, Suita, Japan"}]},{"given":"Yuichi","family":"Itoh","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Osaka University, Suita, Japan"}]},{"given":"Hiroyuki","family":"Kidokoro","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Osaka University, Suita, Japan"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"ijcicg.2013010102-0","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Back, M., Cohen, J., Gold, R., Harrison, S., & Minneman, S.
