This novel combination effectively and feasibly addresses the hallucination issue of large language models (LLMs) in critical domains, such as law. Through this system, we demonstrate how incorporating a legal knowledge base and logical reasoning can enhance the accuracy and reliability of legal advice provided by AI models like GPT. Though our work is primarily a demonstration, it provides a framework to explore how knowledge bases and logic programming structures can be further integrated with generative AI systems, to achieve improved results across various natural languages and legal systems.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/faia230991","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,12,11]],"date-time":"2023-12-11T09:38:04Z","timestamp":1702287484000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["LawGiBa \u2013 Combining GPT, Knowledge Bases, and Logic Programming in a Legal Assistance System"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"given":"Ha Thanh","family":"Nguyen","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"National Institute of Informatics (NII), Japan"}]},{"given":"Randy","family":"Goebel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Alberta, Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute, Canada"}]},{"given":"Francesca","family":"Toni","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Imperial College London, UK"}]},{"given":"Kostas","family":"Stathis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Royal Holloway, University of London, UK"}]},{"given":"Ken","family":"Satoh","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"National Institute of Informatics (NII), Japan"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","Legal Knowledge and Information Systems"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/pdf\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA230991","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2023,12,11]],"date-time":"2023-12-11T09:38:05Z","timestamp":1702287485000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA230991"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2023,12,7]]},"ISBN":["9781643684727","9781643684734"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/faia230991","relation":{},"ISSN":["0922-6389","1879-8314"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0922-6389","type":"print"},{"value":"1879-8314","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2023,12,7]]}}}
