LCS functions allow one to obtain important information (in particular, force-annihilation prediction) without having to spend the time and effort of computing force-level trajectories. The choice of these particular functions is based on theoretical considerations that apply in general to Lanchester-type equations of modern warfare and provide guidance for developing other canonical functions. Moreover, our new LCS functions also provide valuable information about related variable-coefficient models. Also, we introduce an important transformation of the battle's time scale that not only simplifies the force-level equations, but also shows that relative fire effectiveness and intensity of combat are the only two weapon-system parameters determining the course of such variable-coefficient Lanchester-type combat. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1287\/opre.31.4.752","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2008,11,8]],"date-time":"2008-11-08T13:45:52Z","timestamp":1226151952000},"page":"752-771","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["Annihilation Prediction for Lanchester-Type Models of Modern Warfare"],"prefix":"10.1287","volume":"31","author":[{"given":"James G.","family":"Taylor","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California"}]},{"given":"Gerald G.","family":"Brown","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California"}]}],"member":"109","container-title":["Operations Research"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/pubsonline.informs.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1287\/opre.31.4.752","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2023,4,2]],"date-time":"2023-04-02T13:52:20Z","timestamp":1680443540000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/pubsonline.informs.org\/doi\/10.1287\/opre.31.4.752"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1983,8]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"4","published-print":{"date-parts":[[1983,8]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1287\/opre.31.4.752"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1287\/opre.31.4.752","relation":{},"ISSN":["0030-364X","1526-5463"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0030-364X","type":"print"},{"value":"1526-5463","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[1983,8]]}}}
