We consider a megamodel to be any model that causes the Oth law of model dynamics to come into effect. We will demonstrate how working with megamodels quickly reveals the limitations of the graphics hardware and software being used to support the virtual environment. We will give examples, based upon our experiences on the Architectural Walkthrough Project here at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), of the kinds of extra effort required to overcome these limitations. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1162\/pres.1996.5.1.136","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2015,12,1]],"date-time":"2015-12-01T19:28:12Z","timestamp":1448998092000},"page":"136-145","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Large Models for Virtual Environments: A Review of Work by the Architectural Walkthrough Project at UNC"],"prefix":"10.1162","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Mark R.","family":"Mine","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Computer Science Department, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC 27599."}]},{"given":"Hans","family":"Weber","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Computer Science Department, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC 27599."}]}],"member":"281","reference":[{"key":"p_4","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/127719.122724"},{"key":"p_5","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/378456.378487"}],"container-title":["Presence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.mitpressjournals.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1162\/pres.1996.5.1.136","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2021,3,12]],"date-time":"2021-03-12T21:27:58Z","timestamp":1615584478000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/direct.mit.edu\/pvar\/article\/5\/1\/136-145\/58911"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1996,1]]},"references-count":2,"journal-issue":{"issue":"1","published-print":{"date-parts":[[1996,1]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1162\/pres.1996.5.1.136"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1162\/pres.1996.5.1.136","relation":{},"ISSN":["1054-7460"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1054-7460","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[1996,1]]}}}
