The theory involves seven constraints that uniquely define the mapping. The compatibility with observational phenomena and sufficiency of these constraints shows the validity of the theory. The principle underlying these constraints is a coding by the most efficient representation of information. The efficiency of representation is evaluated by the coding redundancy of given experiences defined as the number of real numbers that characterize experiences plus the size of the minimum continuous decoding function. The coding redundancy of experiences by the most efficient representation corresponds to the Kolmogorov complexity of the experiences. The mapping accounts for the dependence on neonatal experience of the development of perceptual and motor-control functions. This theory of development can also be seen as a metatheory of cognition that presents us a unified view of the diversity of perceptual and motor-control modules.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1142\/s0219525905000488","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2005,12,16]],"date-time":"2005-12-16T10:47:13Z","timestamp":1134730033000},"page":"229-260","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["A FORMAL THEORY OF EARLY COGNITION DEVELOPMENT"],"prefix":"10.1142","volume":"08","author":[{"given":"TAKESHI","family":"OKADOME","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"NTT Laboratories, Kehanna Science City, Kyoto 619-0237, Japan"}]}],"member":"219","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,11,20]]},"reference":[{"key":"rf1","first-page":"327","volume":"15","author":"Angluin D.","journal-title":"Computing Surveys"},{"volume-title":"An Essay towards a New Theory of Vision","year":"1709","author":"Berkeley G.","key":"rf2"},{"key":"rf3","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1142\/0531"},{"volume-title":"On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection","year":"1859","author":"Darwin C.","key":"rf4"},{"key":"rf5","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","DOI":"10.7551\/mitpress\/4378.001.0001","volume-title":"Made-Up Minds","author":"Drescher G.
