Based on two popular soft\u2010decision algorithms, namely OSA and SSA, which have an inherent trellis structure, several adaptive derivatives are proposed. In particular, by extending the concept of Conventional Adaptive MLSE (CA\u2010MLSE) receiver to the soft\u2010decision case, the CA\u2010OSA and CA\u2010SSA algorithms are derived. Moreover, using the Per\u2010Survivor Processing (PSP) concept, two new adaptive extensions are presented, namely PSP\u2010OSA and PSP\u2010SSA. The latter of these algorithms (PSP\u2010SSA) has a simplified form with complexity comparable to PSP\u2010MLSE.
