Eve Outdoor Cam - Secure Floodlight Camera

eve outdoor cam

Protect your home. Protect your privacy.

Keep a close eye on your home around the clock. Eve Outdoor Cam packs advanced technology into a sleek metal enclosure and is designed exclusively for Apple HomeKit Secure Video, built from the ground up to keep your data secure and your private space safe.

USPs: 100% privacy: HomeKit Secure Video I Dimmable floodlight I Rich notifications I People/pet/vehicle detection I Package detection I 157° field of view with night vision

Designed exclusively for HomeKit Secure Video.

When you view the video stream from your Eve Outdoor Cam while out and about, you communicate back to base directly over an end-to-end encrypted connection. Your camera’s live stream never reaches the cloud – not even the iCloud. You choose what and when you want to record – Apple TV or HomePod then take over the task of analyzing in the privacy of your own four walls whether it’s a person, pet, vehicle, or package in the picture.

The happenings are only recorded, encrypted, and stored in your iCloud once your recording criteria are met. And only your personal devices have the key to unlock these recordings.

  • Requirements: iPhone or iPad with the latest version of iOS/iPadOS; HomePod or Apple TV (4th generation or later) as a home hub; Wi-Fi network (2,4 GHz 802.11b/g/n); 50 GB Apple iCloud+ storage plan or higher (not included)
  • Power: AC 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz
  • Wireless Connection: WLAN (2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n)
  • Compatibility: Eve Outdoor Cam requires both a neutral wire and a connection to a ground wire.
  • Dimensions: 6.7 x 2.6 x 3 in

notification

Get instant, rich notifications.

Receive notifications on your iPhone the moment motion is detected, and keep your home safe from intruders. That way you can take immediate action if there’s an unwanted visitor and record evidence at the same time. And by leveraging your home hub's facial recognition capabilities, you'll be notified when people you've tagged in the Photos app enter the field of view so you know exactly who's at your door.

notification

Customize notifications and recordings.

Choose when you want to be notified and if you want to make recordings whenever something is up or only if people, pets, vehicles, or packages are detected. The video footage is analyzed securely in your home by your home hub, not in any cloud. Recordings are saved for ten days in your iCloud and then deleted automatically. If you want to hold on to a recording, you have the option to save it permanently.

two-way communication

Two-way communication.

Not at home, and the courier wants to know where to drop the delivery? No problem! With the built-in microphone and speaker, you can say where to put your package.

Greater security with maximum privacy.

eve outdoor cam

Eve Outdoor Cam exclusively supports Apple HomeKit Secure Video, enabling you to securely store activity detected by Eve Outdoor Cam in iCloud. Using on-device intelligence, Apple TV or HomePod can determine when a person, animal, vehicle, or package is present before securely storing the recording in iCloud for you. A 10-day recording history is available to view in the Apple Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Connection: For maximum range, Eve Outdoor Cam is compatible with 2.4 GHz band networks only. DHCP function must be active on your router, authentication via MAC addresses must be off. HomeKit requires Bonjour so please make sure to disable router tools like “Storm Control” that interfere with the Bonjour protocol (e.g. mDNS, Multicast). Avoid Wi-Fi access points that connect through Powerline/PowerLAN as they are also known to impact Bonjour.

Installation: Eve Outdoor Cam is best installed replacing an existing outdoor light and requires AC power with a connection to ground. For further details on how to install Eve Outdoor Cam, watch the installation video. The camera has to be mounted in an upright position with the camera’s microphone and speaker array facing downwards in order to prevent water damage. Eve Outdoor Cam has been designed to be mounted directly on a wall. Unless your electrical junction box has channels with 60 mm / 2.36 in clearance (center to center), you may need an extra light fixture mounting bracket (for customers that need to the mounting bracket kit, you can request a free one by writing to store@evehome. com).

two-way communication

Your dependable first line of defense.

With a wide 157° field of view and night vision, Eve Outdoor Cam keeps a close eye on everything day and night – and in pin-sharp detail with HD live video streaming and recording. Thanks to a dedicated motion sensor, Eve Outdoor Cam won't bother you with reacting to leaves blowing in the wind, small animals, and other events that don't require your attention.

two-way communication

Turn night into day.

Eve Outdoor Cam turns on the built-in flood light automatically the moment the motion sensor detects activity. Set if, when, and for how long you want the dimmable flood light to illuminate the space, and use the Eve app to turn on light boost when you want it to shine extra-bright.

Customers have different views on the value for money of the security camera. Some find it reasonably priced with good image and audio quality, and no monthly streaming fee if you use an iCloud account. Others consider it overpriced, subpar, and a waste of money.

Not for anything beyond 10 feet.
Update 1:After about a week of use now, I’m only further disappointed in, and frustrated with, this cam.A few additional items to note:- Camera: The camera is so terrible that unless you’re within about 10 feet of it, you’ll never be able to make anything out such as faces or license plates. I get that perhaps this wasn’t designed for distant, garage application, but it should be at least capable enough to deliver a clear center image rather than a pixelated mess.- Sound: I didn’t comment on this before, but it’s just as terrible as everything else. There is seemingly no noise control (ANR) built into this cam, so every recording (or live view) is just background noise. This can likely be fixed via firmware update, but will require attention of someone at Eve that knows anything about audio programming.- Motion Detection: The motion detection and light activation is delayed by a few seconds compared to my neighbor’s Ring floodlight cam (which is far superior in every way btw, except for privacy).I’m not happy with the fact that there just isn’t much positive to say about this cam, but alas here we are. I’ll likely just return it and replace it with a POE camera and good led light.Original Review:Let’s face it, the only reason anyone is at all interested in this camera is for its HomeKit integration and Eve’s promise not to harvest/sell user data (who knows…). As such, this fills a much needed gap, given most manufacturers have shunned HomeKit because they wouldn’t get to be greedy creeps and voyeurs and harvest your biometric data for either profit or the CCP.With that said, there’s a lot left to be desired with this camera. And I mean A LOT! It’s plain sad that in 2022 this is all we have to look forward to. Shame on Apple for not having done better by now to get into the IOT world with HomeKit and leaving up to tiny (but well-meaning) companies like Eve to eek it out in this overcrowded market.Having just received and installed this cam, this will be a brief overview, with more to follow once I have a bit more time with it.The Good:1. Build quality. Kudos to Eve on the nice design and overall quality. Though it may be inspired by another brand, I’m not personally familiar enough with it to evaluate the similarities and differences between the two. This is made in Taiwan, which is a major plus. The Bad:1. Everything else! Eve really had an opportunity to make major waves with this, but IMO failed tremendously. They also failed to recognize that many HomeKit fans are into advanced tech and are more critical and discerning, and will recognize a bad product. I wonder whether this was ever market-tested (unlikely). In fact, there’s so much bad, I simply don’t have the time/energy to write it now, and feel Eve may have to pay consultancy fees for it.I’ll briefly list some fails:- Camera. Well, Eve might well be limited by Apple (stupidly) to 1080p, but it’s still a terrible camera with an awful lens. Heck, my 720p baby monitor displays a better image on a crappy display.- Light. While the integrated light and IR work okay and has a good color temperature, “boost mode” should be the standard brightness. Why limit it? And why not integrate a cable to jump an add-on light. In other words, it’s an okay light for a small entryway, but don’t expect it to “light up the night” as Eve marketing claims.- Mount. The mount is only okay if you have a smooth surface with a cable sticking out of the wall. Any rough surface (brick, siding, etc.) and the rubber gasket is useless. Why not include a junction box plate? That’s a major miss, especially in the US market.- HomeKit. Again, the ONLY reason I’d even look at this is for the secure/private HomeKit integration. As such, why force the Eve app on users? I, for one, don’t care how many times you claim to ensure privacy and security. Just don’t do it! (And please Apple, stop forcing us to allow every silly app to access ALL of the Home data. That’s insanity!- Color. There should be a white color option. Seriously, everyone else does this in white. Have you looked at ANYTHING?- WiFi. Come on, it’s 2022. Just give us 5ghz and stop the silly argument that it’s not great for an outdoor device. Nonsense! This is a “premium” device. And every premium outdoor camera today has dual-band WiFi. Again, HomeKit people will likely figure out WiFi extenders, mesh networks, and Thread. Stop playing us for fools!- Stickers. Eve includes two stickers that are supposed to be posted, I guess (well, one in Spanish, which is about the same thing)… (see image). It’s quite pathetic. Almost like an insult. Surely, you could come up with a better way of communicating to would-be trespassers that they’re on camera…Well, I guess I did end up writing quite a bit here. Hopefully this helps. I’m sure there will be many paid shills on YT “unboxing” this, but figured I’d add my actual “verified” experience with it.P.S. Seriously, the first manufacturer that just makes one of their existing devices available for HomeKit (up-charge it, I don’t care), will have all the business.

If you're looking for a HomeKit Secure Video camera that works right out of the box without having to sign up for some third-party app/service, this is the camera you'll want. I see some folks have complained about getting these installed in North American homes, but it appears Eve now supplies the adapter plate in the box from the get-go instead of having to request it separately from their website. (That said... if you bought one & it didn't include the adapter plate, you can reach out to Eve's customer service. They'll hook you up with one for free if you're in the US.)

Installation was straightforward enough. Post-installation, the camera's been flawless with no downtime whatsoever. As always, a smart home with smart accessories requires good WiFi coverage. I have my home blanketed with Nest WiFi points, for reference. HomeKit is running in my home with an Apple TV 4K acting as the hub (via WiFi, not ethernet). If you are having WiFi issues, try to improve your WiFi signal where the camera is located.

Build quality is also solid. It seems robust & well-designed to withstand the elements. The camera doesn't go offline even in the extreme summer heat we just dealt with in the US Southeast. That's been an issue with my Logitech Circle View Doorbell, so I'm glad to see Eve accounted for high temperature operation.

Video quality could be better, but I chalk that up to a HomeKit Secure Video limitation. Until Apple allows for 1080p+ video quality on HomeKit, we're stuck with 1080p as the maximum. Video quality as-is is sufficient to make out cars, faces, animals, etc. You may miss finer details (like car license plates) at a distance due to the low 1080p resolution, however. The viewing angle is very wide, which should allow for total coverage of your driveway (as an example) from one installation point.

Audio & speaker quality is also good. I can clearly hear outside noises & make out what visitors are saying from my iPhone. Audio output from the camera itself is also good, with visitors able to clearly understand what I'm saying from my iPhone.

Night vision is also good, with the built-in IR doing its job in providing nighttime visibility for the camera without having to activate the floodlights. When the floodlights do activate, they're quite bright! In fact, they're brighter than my old "dumb" floodlights that were replaced with this Eve camera. Brightness can be modified on a scale via the Eve app, with an extra bright option available for short periods of time. The floodlight can be setup to turn on only when it detects motion (in general) or specific motion (from cars, animals, people, etc.). It's the standard fare that you'd expect from a HomeKit camera. You can modify the usual settings from Apple's Home app, with additional options available via the Eve app. (The Eve app does not require a separate signup/login.)

Overall, I like this camera very much. I haven't tried the other outdoor HomeKit camera options (other than the aforementioned Logitech Circle View Doorbell) so I can't provide a proper comparison, but I can certainly say that I'd be happy to purchase another one of these in the future if I decide to expand my HomeKit camera coverage.

Camera installation is ridiculously difficult for as simple as it *should be*. I’ve done numerous electric installs, including spotlights and this was very difficult when trying to fit all the wiring under the cover. Image quality was not very good, mainly at night. And build quality is apparently poor because within three weeks, the camera had water/moisture intrusion and the camera shorted out and stopped working. Eve tech support was also useless because it didn’t recognize my serial number.

It was a challenging product to install, but it works well. It integrates with my Home App, allowing me to control it with Siri. It can turn on based on commands or motion sensors, but manual intervention is required to extend its duration beyond the timer. It also has a brightness level. The connection is stable, unlike my Eve camera, which frequently disconnects. I highly recommend it.

I had an old outdoor light I replaced with the Eve Outdoor Cam, but considering I had an outlet box with an opening larger than the mounting ring, and that the mounting ring required a flat wall to attach it to with anchors & screws, I had to figure out another way to mount it to the wall.

I ended up buying a raised metal black mounting plate and drilled holes in it for mounting the camera. Also had to find different screws to attached the plate to the outlet box, and then the camera to the mounting plate. All of these efforts were required because the device is delivered with only one means of mounting the camera/light to a wall. There should be other options included in the box but are not.

Once I managed to get the plates and device mounted, it was very difficult to move the main wires from the camera into the mounting ring area and then to push all the wires (after connected to the camera from the house current) into the housing. It turned out to be a two person job as holding the camera in place and not breaking the plastic mounting rings in this process was necessary. (Also, the instructions don't communicate in layman's terms which wire is the ground wire etc... so I called my electrician for advice).

Once hooked up and turned on, the device works really well, excellent video quality and quick responsiveness in HomeKit and the Eve home app.

If you have a VPN running the video may not play ( I had the Eve Home app on my iPad with a VPN running and it would not show the video, but when turned off, it came right up as it did on my other devices that didn't have a VPN running.

I have other Ring Spotlight cams around my home that are mounted hanging from underside of my home eves. I wish this device could replace them, but the Eve Outdoor Cam can only mount on a vertical wall and can't be tilted far enough to suspend from an overhang roof eve where many homes have outdoor light fixtures already in place. Ring did a better job on this, but I hope Eve's other similar ring type spotlight cameras can be made to work with HomeKit... I would get two of them immediately.

The camera quality, features, functionality, and especially the finish is excellent.

One complaint and word of caution. It took 100% of my crafty skills to install this thing. I could tell they tried to make things easy, but they are far from where they need to be. The ring camera in comparison was effortless. This was very difficult to install. Other than that it's perfect.

Great camera and sensors but moot as unit needs a strong WiFi signal to work effectively. Constantly disconnects. I have tested two other cameras in same location (Logitech and Netatmo) that have no issue staying connected. Mars what is otherwise a well made and designed product.

Let’s start with design, it’s a small device with big capabilities, I went with black. It has a really nice finish and has that apple-seque quality. The LED light takes up most of the space with the camera and microphone taking up the rest. I love the simplicity of the device and the fact it’s hard wired.
Next mounting, I have read issues with mounting on a number of reviews, and whilst it took a little more thought, the junction box adaptor works on all types (the bracket is free from Eve if needed) we decided to remove the junction box for the aesthetics and that did make it a little easier but if you follow the video installation you can’t go wrong. All in took about an hour to from old fitting and junction and remount the Eve Outdoor Cam.
Then setup, I think once powered on it was a simple quick process through the Eve app and linking to Apple Home for HomeKit. Super easy.
The video quality is 1080p so nothing super high definition but it’s adequate for a security camera, it offers great night vision with or with out the assistance of the light.
The light is very very bright, currently I have it set to 5% and the is enough illumination for my front lawns , walkway and porch. 100% or boost is almost blinding.
Finally connectivity, so it’s been up for over 2 weeks now and had no issues with dropping wifi or not connecting, it is set up to only notify for an activity zone and it works perfectly (tested thoroughly). Unit has been down to -15C and works like normal.
Overall the cost is a little higher but for HomeKit I think it’s one of the nicest options and offers value as it is a light and camera (with a microphone) so in my can it’s used like a door bell camera.
I have to say that I fully recommend this product.

I really wish I had not purchased this camera. There are far cheaper cameras with better quality and performance. Not sure how they are charging over $300 for this. I would not recommend this to anyone. Buy literally any other camera.

The quality looks real good and it works well . It included everything you need to install including the mounting plate. I found it easier to install if you removed the camera bracket and feed the wire through and installed the c clip . The instruction book is very small and the print hard to read. It took about a half hour to install camera , ten minutes to bypass light switch and about fifteen minutes to install software and setup. The system is quite expensive , but if it lasts a long time i do think it is a good investment. The picture looks good and the light also works well. I would recommend and buy again at this point.

The picture and sound quality are very impressive. Installation was standard and it connected to my HomeKit with little hassle (had to do a hard reset before my phone would pick it up, however I was having electrical issues anyways and I believe it would of been turned on and off several times while that was being fixed). The only complaint I have, is I wish they would have made the installation box square instead of circle, since the standard light box that is recessed into the way (not noticeable) is square. I had to carve a bit of wood away to have it fit into the old space. I know they made it circle because of the security feature but I think there could have been a better way.

I did notice a couple of times when I’ve opened my Home app, that the camera “is not responding” … my Logitech doorbell does this as well. I upgraded my Internet in hopes to correct the issue but it didn’t work. I just purchased a wifi extender in hopes that’ll help.

Overall happy with this purchase and would buy again.

Built very well. The software is excellent and very versatile. Love the fact that it is truly private.
My one wish? Not for myself but for others who are considering this security camera. It is set up for mounting on a wall but like myself, this is not always possible and must be ceiling mounted. Not a problem for me as I love a challenge and with about $25 worth of parts (from here on Amazon) I did a bit of "Dr Frankenstein" though the "monster" turned out not too ugly. See picture. Sure the seller would be able to sell more of this great Camera/Light if they had a kit for a ceiling mount.
