About Us

The African and African Diaspora Studies Program is located in the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Florida International University, It is one of the leading programs in the United States engaged with the study of the peoples of continental Africa and of communities of the African diaspora throughout the world.

Graduate Programs

AADS offers a one-year three-semester M.A. degree that can be taken either on-campus or through a fully online program. Courses in the on campus program are offered both online and in a face-to-face format. The degree provides interdisciplinary, graduate-level training where students master theoretical knowledge, gain training in research methods, become proficient with multidisciplinary analytical frameworks, and gain exposure to the fundamental principles and in-depth knowledge of the field of African and African Diaspora Studies...

Certificate Program

AADS offers the following Degree and Certificate Programs: 1. A one-year three-semester M.A. degree that can be taken either in an on-site or a fully online program. Courses in the on-site program are offered both online and in a face-to-face format. 2. Three combined M.A./Ph.D. Programs jointly with the departments of Global and Sociocultural Studies (Anthropology, Sociology, and Geography), History, and International Relations. 3. The three undergraduate certificates in African Studies, Global Black Studies, and Afro-Latin Studies. 4. Two Graduate Certificates in African & African Diaspora Studies and in Afro-Latin Studies.

Lecture Series
