町の名前の意味はスペイン語で「聖なる信仰」と言う意味。
1607 年に出来た古都で、アメリカに現存する都市としては、
フロリダの St.Augustine（1566 年創設 ）についで古い。
「アメリカの宝石」と呼ばれ、歴史的な町並みや建築物が沢山残っているし、独特の食文化を持つ観光都市。
また多くのアーテイストが住んでいるし、催し物も多く、「芸術の町」としても知られている。
日本では随分前に宮澤りえさんが写真集「 Santa Fe 」を出して話題になりましたね。
