Christmas, the most magical holiday of the year, is fast approaching. Prague will soon be scented with pine from festively decorated trees, and its streets will glow with a thousand twinkling lights. If you listen carefully in the stillness of Advent, you are sure to hear the gentle melodies of carols, the jingling of bells and, with a little luck, feel a snowflake land softly on your nose. Relish the traditional Christmas markets, the aroma of mulled wine from market stalls and the joy of gathering around illuminated trees in the city squares. You can also soak up the festive spirit on a leisurely stroll through the dazzlingly adorned streets of Prague, surrounded by your loved ones.
Prague can’t wait for the new funicular, which in addition to its elegant appearance and sustainability will pay tribute to the romance of Petřín Hill. In fact, when the designer cars pass each other on route, they will exchange a wink and blush. Prague’s second most visited attraction (after Prague Castle) is now closed for complete reconstruction, and will debut in a new look in 2026. But don’t despair – we have put together detailed information and tips on how to get to Petřín quickly by public transport or, instead, slowly via a pleasant stroll.
A walk through the centre of Prague along the Vltava River offers not only breathtaking panoramas, but also the beauty hidden behind the walls of art galleries. Discover it with us! Visit any of the 6 cultural institutions along the Prague Culture Mile, and for the next 6 days the doors to all the others will open with a 20% discount. By the way, with the Prague Visitor Pass you can visit all these cultural institutions for free.
Prague has one of the best public transit systems in the world. One of its integral components is the Prague metro, which boasts another unique feature: it is a vast gallery of artwork, architectural and designer elements. The interiors of some metro stations are indeed among the most photogenic in Europe, owing primarily to the unique tile cladding on the walls, designed by the chief architect of the Prague metro, Jaroslav Otruba. The most appealing tiles are those embellishing the station tunnels on line A. The combination of selected material, proportions and colours creates a unique spatial illusion that delights aficionados of engineering and art alike.
Since the 1930s, Czechoslovak elites have been fighting to decriminalize homosexuality. Among those who made such efforts were Czech poet Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic, lawyer JUDr. František Čeřovský, clerk Jana Mattuschková, director Vladimír Vávra, and the Černý brothers, members of the Czechoslovak Legions. All of these people were behind the birth of Hlas (The Voice), a newspaper for sexual reform, in 1931. They would surely be delighted to know that the defence of human rights and freedoms and the love for diversity are still alive in Prague.
