At the institute for informatics of the Free University of Berlin, both the foundations and the applications of computer science are the objects of investigation. The focus on research are the smart handling of big amounts of data, the security of systems of information, and the implementation of efficient discrete algorithms. In teaching, we also intend to sharpen the view on the effects of informatics on society.
