IMO –
the International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN sustainable development goals.
Women maritime professionals from the Pacific region have completed their first training session under the IMO-Republic of Korea SMART-C Women Project.
Five Member States in Central America and the Caribbean are exploring pathways to ratify and implement the London Protocol (LP) - the global treaty that bans the dumping of waste at sea.
IMO marked International Women's Day, observed on 8 March each year, with a call for action to close the gender data gap in maritime and secure a more inclusive future for women in the sector.
