A nationwide survey on the state of discharge and treatment of industrial waste in FY 2003 (April 1, 2003 - March 31, 2004) was conducted and the results have been summarized as follows. (Figures in parentheses are those of FY2002.)

Increase by approximately 18 million tons or 4.7% compared to FY 2002.
Total amount of discharge is approximately 412 million tons (393 million tons) |

Top-six industries account for 80% of the total, same as in FY 2002. |
