WinRAR

WinRAR is software that enables the opening of Zip, RAR, Archive files and many more as well as create them. It's one of the most highly used pieces of software and is regarded as one of the best in its category. WinRAR has two versions, paid and free, the free version is my pick as it has everything you would need to open different types of files. Buying the paid version does have its own up sides but for most it isn't necessary.

For many of you who use PCs on a regular basis and for several different reasons you will have come across Zip files, Archive files and RAR files. If you download large files on a regular basis then you will of realised that most will be Zipped or in a RAR formate for ease of movement and to conserving space. This is most true for open source data such as game mods or fan made content but is still prominent in large files that include lots of data. Windows can actually open Zip files but most people don't use it and practically all files that have been zipped or otherwise are actually done via WinRAR meaning you'll need WinRAR to open them. So "why is WinRAR so widely used" there are many answers to that question, putting it simply though it's just that good and easy to use.

WinRAR has lots to offer, most of all you'll use it to open different files and create them. WinRAR does this very well and reliably, it's also very fast even if your PC is getting on. WinRAR can also repair damaged files which could come in handy if a file that is sent to you becomes corrupt. You can also scan files for viruses just in case you don't trust the file or where it has come from. The features don't stop there, you can test each file for errors, lock files, protect files from damage, add comments and do all the usual things like renaming, deleting and printing. All these features are free and really easy to use. WinRAR also gets regular updates and everything is automated and well explained. They have even gone through the effort of making a process called Wizard that literally makes all the decisions for you when it comes to unpacking or packing files.

If you find yourself staring down a file you cant open then WinRAR could be the answer. WinRAR is a superb piece of software that is user friendly and packed full of useful and well thought out features and I would recommend it to anyone who uses their computer regularly.
