The Global Dialogue on Ending Gender-Based Discrimination and Violence in the World of Work will be held in New York City on March 11th, 2020 and will be organized in partnership will allies from the labor and women’s rights movements. The goal of this global advocacy event will be to amplify the demand for the speedy ratification and national implementation of the newly adopted International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention 190, which addresses violence and harassment in the world of work.
The Global Dialogue will bring together women workers, representatives of governments, employers, unions and civil society organizations, and human rights experts from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa, North America, and the Pacific. It will build primarily on the following inputs:
- • Testimonies of women workers;
- • Leading examples of promising laws, policies and practices by governments, employers, and unions that demonstrate how gender-based discrimination and violence in the world of work is currently being addressed;
- Opinions by legal experts on the human rights implications of the issues that are raised and the obligations of governments and private actors, including employers; and,
- Interventions by technical experts on the economic and other dimensions of gender-based discrimination and violence in the world of work with recommendations for implementing the new standards.
