The Light Phone 3 starts shipping on March 27th.

TechCrunch spotted the date, which seems to have been the target for early preorders since at least February, when Light mentioned it in an X post. The Light Phone 3 will have an OLED display and rear camera, but still aims for its predecessors’ minimalist vibe that doesn’t demand your constant attention.

March-shipping preorders are sold out, though — In a FAQ on its site, Light estimates orders placed now for the Phone 3 will ship in June.

A Game Boy for pirates?

The $70 Anbernic RG 34XX is my favorite new way to play Game Boy — but the new RixelHK app lets people use the handheld’s built-in Wi-Fi to browse a huge catalog of games for free. It encourages you to download Nintendo, Sony, and Sega titles, and they appear to be the real deal but unauthorized.

Typically, would-be pirates would need to buy an SD card filled with pirated games or fill a card on a PC, but these Anbernics make downloading games as easy as downloading songs used to be.

“Beginnings of support for non-Steam Deck handhelds.”

That’s Valve’s bullet point in its SteamOS 3.7.0 Preview patch notes about the promised ability to install SteamOS on other handhelds. That feature is expected to officially launch as soon as April, so it tracks that Valve is introducing it in the Preview branch now.

Go read what happened to Embracer, as told by Saber Interactive’s CEO on his private jet.

Embracer Group wanted to be the one video game publisher to rule them all, even buying up Lord of the Rings, until a $2 billion Saudi deal fell through and the layoffs and restructuring began. Now, Stephen Totilo has published a rare window into the rise and fall from someone in the room: Saber Interactive CEO Matt Karch, who gave Totilo a 2.5 hour airborne interview.

It’s paywalled, but if you want rare industry interviews, Totilo’s Game File is worth it.

A”high-level” deal to save TikTok can probably happen by the April 5th deadline, Vance says.

The VP, who’s reportedly brokering discussions, told NBC News, “there will almost certainly be a high-level agreement that I think satisfies our national security concerns, allows there to be a distinct American TikTok enterprise.” That deal, according to The Information, will likely involve Oracle playing an active role to help run the US platform. As a reminder, the deadline comes from President Donald Trump’s 75 day ban delay, giving legally dubious cover to TikTok’s service providers.

BMW’s EV future will debut on a second-gen iX3 this September.

The electric crossover (based on last year’s concept) will be the first built on BMW’s Neue Klasse EV platform, which introduces an 800-volt architecture and new “Gen6” battery packs featuring higher density cylindrical cells for up to 30 percent better range. The iX3 will kick off new technologies that will be introduced in more than 40 models of various drivetrains by 2027. BMW Group also announced its first hydrogen car slated for 2028 at its annual press conference.

The Electric State can’t hold a charge to save its life

Netflix’s terrible adaptation of The Electric State is as soulless as it is uninspired.

    Content vampires.

Molly White’s newsletter cogently outlines problems with how both AI companies and open access creators are approaching copyright, plus some possible solutions:

“The true threat from AI models training on open access material is not that more people may access knowledge thanks to new modalities. It’s that those models may stifle Wikipedia and other free knowledge repositories, benefiting from the labor, money, and care that goes into supporting them while also bleeding them dry.”

    Streisand effect alert.

Meta is in the midst of attempting to block a memoir from an ex-employee detailing accusations of misconduct at the company. Behind the scenes, Meta has apparently also been badgering Washington Post book critic Ron Charles, sending repeated emails asking him about his plans to review Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism by Sarah Wynn-Williams (you can read a preview of his newsletter below). He writes:

In my 27 years of reviewing and editing newspaper books sections, no company has ever done this with me.

DeepSeek engineers have handed in their China passports.

The China-based AI startup that made headline news earlier this year after releasing a highly capable, cost-efficient AI model, has taken the passports of some key employees, per The Information. The travel ban is intended to prevent the leak of “confidential information that could constitute trade secrets or even state secrets,” the report says, citing three anonymous sources.

A spin of the revolving door.

Former Republican Federal Communications Commission chair and oversized mug enthusiast Ajit Pai is the new CEO and president of wireless industry trade association CTIA — a prominent player in lobbying against net neutrality, state low-income broadband rules, and other regulation. Pai is, of course, a former colleague of current FCC chair Brendan Carr, who’s aligned with the wireless and telecom industry on things like spiking anti-digital discrimination rules.

This is the Easy-Bake Oven of 3D printers.

I’m delighted by the videos appearing in my social feeds of crowdfund backers who have received their adorable TinyMaker resin printer. The print speed and quality look resoundingly “meh,” but who cares about practicality — it’s palm-sized! It comes packaged in a tiny crate! And you can store it in a lunchbox with an even smaller wash and cure station!

Lamborghini’s upcoming EV will run on a new 980-volt platform.

The Lanzador EV concept-based vehicle will also “allow for up to 2,000” horsepower according to Volkswagen Group and Porsche CEO Olliver Blume, who shared the details at an annual media conference. Future Audi, Porsche and Bentley vehicles will share this new platform, however, Blume teases that the Lamborghini will have “a very specific set-up.”
