Dear JCRP Readers,

I am excited to present to you the January issue of JCRP. I think we have an excellent line-up of articles featured in this first issue of 2025.

To start, we honor the career and impact of Dr. Phil Ades. Dr. Ades unfortunately passed away in late November. Dr. Sherrie Khadanga and Patrick Savage provide a thoughtful and heartfelt In Memoriam for Dr. Ades in this issue. Dr. Ades previously served as editor-in-chief of JCRP and was always dedicated to the success of the Journal. He had a great impact on my career, and I am sure that many of you share the same sentiments. We will miss him greatly.

The remainder of the issue includes 3 reviews, 6 original investigations, 2 research letters, and an infographic. Dr. Robert Kloner provides an invited review entitled, “A Review of the Cardiovascular Effects of Mariuana Use.” He provides a comprehensive review that will empower you as you council patients on the detrimental effects of marijuana on their cardiovascular systems. We also feature 2 other reviews: one on remote exercise engagement (“Remote Exercise Engagement Among Individuals with Cardiovascular Disease: A Systematic Review of Barriers and Facilitators”) and a second on the impact of pulmonary rehabilitation on gait and balance (“Exploring the Promising Impact of Pulmonary Rehabilitation on Gait and Balance in Patients with COPD: A Systemic Review and Meta-Analysis”).

The 6 original investigations cover a wide range of topics in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. We have investigations that examine referral to cardiac rehabilitation (“Implementation of a Clinical Decision Support Tool to Improve Cardiac Rehabilitation Referral”), information needs of patients in cardiac rehabilitation (“Exploring Information Needs and Educational Preferences of Individuals Referred to Cardiac Rehabilitation Before Program Start”), and adherence to cardiac rehabilitation among patients with advanced heart failure (“Examining Risk Factors Related to Cardiac Rehabilitation Cessation Among Patients with Advanced Heart Failure”). In addition, we feature investigations into the benefits of cardiac rehabilitation in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (“Effect of Exercise-Based Cardiac Rehabilitation on Patients with Chronic Heart Failure after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: A Randomized Controlled Trial”), adherence to blood pressure monitoring ("Patterns of Adherence to Home Blood Pressure Monitoring among Older Adults with Ischemic Heart Disease: An Analysis from the RESILIENT Trial of Mobile Health Cardiac Rehabilitation”), and access to stroke rehabilitation in Tennessee (“A Comparison of Rural and Urban Differences in Geographic Proximity to Outpatient Stroke Rehabilitation Services in Tennessee”).

We close the issue with 2 research letters on digital (“What Factors Facilitate Successful Participation in Digital Home-Based Cardiac Rehabilitation”) and virtual cardiac rehabilitation (“Trends in the Use of Virtual Cardiac Rehabilitation in Medicare”) and feature an infographic on the benefits of cardiac rehabilitation for cancer survivors (“The Psychosocial Benefits of Cardiac Rehabilitation Among Cancer Survivors”).

Happy New Year to all of you, and I hope that each of you find something of interest in this issue of JCRP!
