Hosted by the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society (AMMS) from February 2nd to 7th, 2025, APMC13 served as a global platform for discussing advancements in microscopy, new instrumentation, and innovative workflows.
February 28th, marks Rare Disease Day, a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for individuals affected by rare diseases. Among these devastating conditions is Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), also known as Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG), a rare and aggressive brain tumor primarily affecting children. With over 1,000 children worldwide succumbing to DIPG/DMG annually, the need for improved treatment options has never been greater.
The DIPG/DMG Center Zurich, housed within the Division of Oncology at the University Children’s Hospital of Zurich and supported by the Eleonore Foundation, is at the forefront of efforts to develop and implement innovative therapies for DIPG/DMG patients. In collaboration with the University of San Francisco, California (UCSF), the center ensures that affected families have access to the latest research and clinical advancements.

The World Day of Social Justice is observed annually on February 20, to draw attention to the significance of continually working together as a global society, towards a more stable, equitable and secure world for everyone.
On this occasion, let’s reflect on our collective responsibility to stand against social exclusion and inequality and strive for a just society defined by universal access to social protection and application of human rights in all aspects of life. The only world capable of fostering sustainable development is one defined by the four interrelated principles of social justice: equity, access, participation, and rights.
