*EDIT 26/06* My device had developed a fault and I needed to speak to Wileyfox tech support. Like most people I don't particularly enjoy contacting tech support teams so I was happy to find that they had a chat support option. I was helped by Maurice who provided perfect tech support and patience. Support is always a good measure of a business and Maurice demonstrated that Wileyfox maybe new but they are aiming high.**A waited a week before putting this review together to make sure I gave a balanced review without the new toy feeling. The reasons why I brought this phone are as follows: Price, Hardware spec and the fact that these guys are a British start up (got to support the home team when you can)So a simple pro/con/unforgivable rundown:Pro: Unlocked. This phone is unlocked as standard so I can use any SIM in the phone. Which is handy if EE ever gets me annoyed enough to leave.Pro: Packaging. This device comes in a sleek well thought out box which immediately gives you the feeling you have brought something special. As a gift most techies would be happy.Pro: Build quality. This is a budget phone and as expected this is mostly plastic. However, everything locks together securely with no creaks. The overall build feels like it punches above its weight with the stone effect back casing with the logo embossed, Colour detailing around the camera and the same colour for the logo. These are all an indication of a carefully thought out phone rather than a simple rebranding exercise.Pro: Screen. HD, very bright, clear and has great viewing angles. I have this phone set to about 1/3 of its possible brightness as a full brightness it could double as a flashlight. Also the DPI is editable under one of the many settings.Pro: Camera. Sometimes on low end phones the camera looks great on paper then you find out the shutter is incredibly slow making all photos useless. This is not the case with this phone as all my photos have turned out great. Bearing in mind the photos have been of my kids which can’t hold still for longer than a second this is a great result.Pro: Hardware. I have yet to experience any sort of lag opening or using apps. Even when I have had several apps open at the same time. Wileyfox is a good name for this firm as they have been savvy regarding the hardware choices. The screen is LG, the Camera is Samsung and the processor is a snapdragon all of these are not low end parts which add to the sleek experience of this device.Pro: Dual SIM. This is great to have as I can put my work SIM in the second slot which saves me carrying around two phones. Or if I am travelling have a local sim in the second slot.Pro: GPS. I use this phone with Here maps (offline no data connection) and it has functioned perfectly as a sat nav.Pro: Storage. After the operating system you have 12gb on board storage which is ample for most users app requirements. But it is expandable by adding a further 32gb via micro SD. This is great as a lot of low end Chinese phones are partitioned leaving a tiny space for apps.Pro: 4G. Ok 4G isn’t a new thing but it is to me. My last phone when tested in my house managed 5.48mb connection (10mb was the best I ever got outside). This phone tested in the same spot inside my house on the same SIM came in at 35mb! To put that in context that is only 7mb off my fibre optic speeds on a wireless connection! Also, this phone can act as a hotspot which will be handy when travellingPro: Notification LED. A lot of low end phones don’t have this and it is a great addition to the device. A simple glance at the LED tells you if you have a missed call, message, email etc.Pro: LED. This has a dual LED flash which is ample to light up a room. So very handy as a flashlight as well as for the camera.Pro/Con: Cyanogen. This phone isn’t a pure android phone it is a Cyanogen modded version of Android and this is a blessing and a curse. The good bit is that this is geek heaven with lots of security enhancements (pin scramble is nice) and enough other bits to keep geeks entertained. The bad bit is if you are not a geek this is overkill, with settings which have no explanation of what they do.Con: USB cable. The supplied USB cable is ridiculously short, making it a pain for mains plug charging. However, I have used a couple of different cables and they all worked fine.Con: Battery. The battery on this device is not a disaster as it is on its big brother the Storm. But it is also not particularly great. A daily recharge is required under normal usage. I know they had to save money somewhere but the battery wasn’t a great decision. However, it is removable so when spares become available I will get one which sort of solves the problem.Unforgivable: Manual. This device has absolutely no manual in the box or downloadable from the website. Whilst this isn’t a problem for an experienced Android user for somebody new to Android it could be a deal breaker. Also as this is Cyanogen based I feel a manual is even more necessary.Unforgivable: Plug adapter. This device doesn’t come with a mains USB adapter. Again an experienced Android user is likely to have a draw full of these but a new user may not.Unforgivable: Contacts. For some reason this phone would not read my SIM to import my contacts and it also didn’t properly sync with my google account to get my contacts. So I had to manually input 40+ contacts. This is the only moment I have had with this phone which involved a lot of swearing and frustration. But it did give me an opportunity to spring clean numbers I hadn’t used for years.Overall I am very happy with this phone. Yes there are some issues, but all phones including flagship phones have issues. This phone is not a £600+ flagship phone and it was never intended to be. This is built for a budget market to show that budget doesn’t always mean bad/gutless. In its target market there is simply nothing which can come close to this device. For the price you are getting an absolute bargain which stands out from the crowd in looks and performance. In case you have read some reviews comparing this to the Moto G 3rd gen it is worth mentioning the Moto G in the same price bracket is 8gb onboard (Swift is 16gb) the RAM is 1gb (Swift is 2gb). The Moto G doesn’t have a Gyro so Google cardboard apps will not work and the Moto G is single SIM (Swift is dual SIM both 4G). The higher spec Moto G is similar to the swift (still no gyro or dual sim) but it is also £40 - £70 more expensive depending on where you get it. From what I could see the only advantage the Moto G has is a partial waterproofing (not complete waterproofing) and a brand name.

Glorious phone! Fantastic upgrade from my galaxy SII

    PROS:
    - Price is excellent! £99 when I bought it but I was going to get it for £130 anyway.

    - Its extremely fast, I usually take my phone into the bathroom with me and my old galaxy SII would lock up sometimes with tinder or it would just be too slow and I would get bored with it. With this phone my legs died on the toilet and I had issues standing up again because I spent so much time messing about on youtube etc. It was fast enough to use every website and app easily without stuttering, lagging or locking up.

    - Plenty of memory 2GB is double what my old phone had.

    - The 5" screen is the perfect size, I wasent sold on larger phones (old phone was 4.5") but I think 5" is ideal! 5.5" would be too big and I would struggle going back to a 4.5" phone.

    - Comes with CyanogenOS which is great because I ended up putting cyanogenmod on my old phone anyway. I dont like being locked into manufacturer only updates with a bunch of proprietary bloatware. CyanogenOS has minimal bloat, it just works.

    - Removable battery! This is a must for anyone that keeps their phone for a long time (years).

    - Looks good. Its a plain black slab and if im honest thats fine with me!! I dont want to go back to the era of nokia lipstick phone garbage etc.

    - Its just a solid all round package, a good phone with good specs for a good price, there are no major weaknesses with this phone. The company seems pretty smart too, they've taken an apple approach and only produce two different phones. Trying to navigate most other companies product lines is a comparative nightmare.

    CONS:
    - The usb port on the bottom is a bit too recessed. I think most chargers should fit and charge the phone but they wont necessarily lock into place. In other words picking up the phone will cause the charger to fall out, this is the case with my samsung USB chargers. The charging cable that comes with the device fits perfectly though. Also the charger for sony xperia phones seems to fit decently as well.

I'm stingy when it comes to phones. I've never paid more than £18 a month for a contract since I got my first phone in 1999 and my current £13/month for unlimited data is not a contract I want to 'upgrade' from any time soon. But my old phone was sooooo sloooooowwwwww and needed upgraded badly so the only realistic scenario was to buy my own handset. I've been looking for the past year and not seen anything I liked or thought was worth the money (I want a £250 phone for nearer £100 thank you very much) so I persevered with the old model. Until the latest update to Facebook crippled it completely so it was clearly time for it to go.

A quick search of the review sites flagged up the Wileyfox Swift at £130. Slightly more than I really wanted to pay but the reviews were very promising. But, it is a completely brand new model from a brand new company with no track record so was it worth the gamble? I like to toughen my phone with screen protectors and hard cases and invest in extra batteries but none of these things are available as yet. Anyway, I took the gamble and ordered one from Amazon. (Note: the phone has a SCREEN PROTECTOR fitted under the peal-off plastic cover it comes with. You don't need to buy additional screen protectors. Like I did.)

The phone duly arrived in just about the most minimal packaging (a good thing) I have ever seen (a way-too-short USB charging cable but no charger - not a problem as I have several; a slip of paper that told you where to put the battery and which button switched the phone on but no other useful instructions to speak of; and that was it!). Getting it started was no problem at all (I am fairly good with operating technology even if I have zero interest in how electronic devices work. Mechanical ones now, that is a different story...) and setting the phone up without instructions ended up being pretty straight forward for someone coming from a previous version of Android.

Now, I don't know if the phone really is that great or not but so far it has performed faultlessly and fast. It is so fast compared to my previous model but for all you lot who have been using iPhones the past few years it is maybe nothing special. The 16Gb of internal memory is more than enough for me (so far) but I'm already rubbing up against 8Gb of stored apps so if I had bought the Motorola Moto G 8Gb that I was considering (£160ish) I might have been struggling already (you would need the £210 version to match the Swift). So far I've pretty much only used it for email, text messaging, facebook & internet searches but it loads pages fast and you can keep multiple apps open at a time without any apparent drop off in speed. So far the battery has lasted well enough but I did manage to flatten it completely in one day with heavy data use. Maybe that is normal so I'm not marking it down on that basis.

Some small downsides in that it is easy for the power button to be pressed when trying to change volume so you cause the phone to 'sleep' when you don't want it to and the USB charging slot is deeply recessed so that the only cable that fits it properly is the one supplied with the phone which is too short to reach from the socket to my bedside cabinet where I charge the phone at night. It is a large phone that doesn't comfortably fit into trouser pockets and because there is not belt pouch/clip option as yet it makes it a bit harder to carry around. (I bought a universal pouch thingy from Carphone warehouse so it is protected somewhat - you need an XL size if you are getting a universal case). I've not bothered getting to grips with the Cyanogen system but the phone doesn't appear to mind.

All in all, I'm happy I have bought it but it is only a month old, if that, so who can tell. I did go as far as buying a second phone for my partner who was in the same situation phone and contract wise as myself so I clearly think the gamble is worth it. And 'Wileyfox' has to be the coolest name for a phone company so you really can't beat it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Uno dei pochi a ricevere aggiornamenti
Reviewed in Italy on 6 May 2018

ALL NEED TO UPDATE YA PHONES – RIGHT NOW”.

5.0 out of 5 stars Update II; Geheimtipp: aktuell keine bessere Preis-Leistungs-Kombi erhältlich
Reviewed in Germany on 16 November 2015

2GB RAM, keine uralt CPU)
    - kein Herstelleraufsatz, also möglichst Vanilla-Android
    - ca. 4,7-5" Display
    - Dual-Sim
    - SD-Karten-Slot mit 16GB oder ohne SD mit min. 32GB internem Speicher

    - GPS: funktioniert einwandfrei (Nachtrag: siehe Update I)

    *** Update I (nach 2 Wochen):

Reviewed in Germany on 28 February 2017
