Economic growth and business cycles |
授業概要 |
In this course, students study "macro" economics, in which the economy consists of more than one agent (households and firms) and prices are determined so that markets clear (i.e. general equilibrium). The first half of this course covers long-run aspects of macroeconomics, namely, Solow’s growth model, the overlapping generations model, and the Ramsey model. In the latter half course, which is related to short-run economic fluctuations, students learn real business cycle, the VAR, and the New Keynesian models. |
授業の到達目標 |
The purpose of the macroeconomics coursework is to provide Ph.D. candidates with comprehensive and up-to-date introduction to this ever-growing field of economics. Focus will be put on both of the theory and basic mathematical tools. By the end of this course, you will obtain clear understanding of what macroeconomics is about, and how economists approach macroeconomic problems such as recessions or unemployment. |

In this course, two lectures and one TA Session will be held each week. The lecture is fully on-demand, while the TA session is in person. The time-slot of the TA session is likely to be on either of the two time-slots of the lecture. As a rule, students must attend the TA Session. Please note that the lecture is conducted based on the understanding that all students are attending the TA Session. |
