Q

[edit]

Hi Xaosflux, will it be better for me to have the sysop right as I can cleanup after myself? Furthermore, it seems more appropriate to test this here. Thoughts? Minorax (talk) 11:35, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Minorax: as you have sysop elsewhere I'll also add for you here - you will still need tadmin flag in order to do that testing. Best regards, Xaosflux (talk) 12:48, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I hope you don't think I've forgotten my promise here. I just couldn't help because I had a lot of work. But I'll still try to help you when I find free time. Good luck with your work. Regards :)--Turkmen (talk) 08:16, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request for permissions

[edit]

Hi @Xaosflux:, could you please re-assign Admin and IAdmin to testing of gadgets script modifications. Creation of MediaWiki namespace pages can find here. I've enabled two-factor authentication for my global account. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 07:30, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please protect User:Killarnee

[edit]

Hey, there has been nothing going on on the administrators noticeboard for a long time, so I am writing to you directly. Can you protect User:Killarnee so that this page can only be created by administrators, please? Thanks, --Killarnee (T12) 18:09, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AWB access

[edit]

Hi greetings, I'd like to use JWB in this wiki for some testing purposes. I requested for AWB access at WP:PERM/AWB, a few months ago. But didn't get reply. I've AWB access in enwiki. Here I'd like to use it for some testing. Would you mind considering my request for AWB access? Regards.--Path slopu (talk) 08:52, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Path slopu:  Done that request page isn't really used here, it was for bot testing. Wikipedia:Requests/Permissions is pretty much used for everything. Xaosflux (talk) 11:13, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for granting AWB access. Also thank you for the advice.--Path slopu (talk) 12:05, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, could you add the int-admin bit again? I'm still in need of it. Realised that it had expired while trying to test out something in connection to [1] Once again, this is something that's impossible to test without actually editing the gadget files. SD0001 (talk) 14:47, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SD0001 - done. Xaosflux (talk) 14:51, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Page move

[edit]

Can editors test page moves here --Synoman Barris (talk) 12:02, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Synoman Barris: sure, feel free to make a page and then move it. It's usually best to not move other people's pages they are testing with. Don't go nuts making a hundred pages to move or something though :) Xaosflux (talk) 15:29, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have page move rights on the English Wikipedia, is there such a right here, that’s makes moving easier --Synoman Barris (talk) 15:43, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Synoman Barris: that group doesn't exist here, and I doubt we will make it since it is only used on one project. There are some sites where you can just get admin to test our features, see Wikipedia:Requests/Tools for a list. Xaosflux (talk) 16:32, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Xaosflux, if you dont mind will you be willing to grant me admin rights, my request can be seen at Wikipedia:Requests/Permissions/Synoman Barris. Thanks --Synoman Barris (talk) 08:41, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

I don't have access to JWB on test.wikipedia.org but on other wiki's. When trying to use it send a message saying that i have to contact an admin that will grant me and list me on who can use JWB. Please tell me what to do and help me solve the problem. Tbiw (talk) 14:28, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Tbiw: I added you to the checkpage at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage - it's fine to test things here - but for the most part you shouldn't do any "bulk" jobs here. Xaosflux (talk) 15:38, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SecurePoll

[edit]

Hello. Do you think it's reasonable if I open phab:T277353 and assign it to myself? I have done some site configurations in the past[2] but I need to set it up again on my new machine. Please ping me when responding. Thank you 4nn1l2 (talk) 00:46, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@4nn1l2: the "change" is trivial technically - but it will require some discussion. Reopen it and restart discussion there, esp to get to the bottom of why there is dev pushback. -- Xaosflux (bar/foo) talk 09:37, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Could you please make me an electionadmin? 4nn1l2 (talk) 01:36, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@4nn112: it doesn't look like all of phab:T277353 is done yet, specifically the Add group management of this group to testwiki bureaucrats portion. -- Xaosflux (bar/foo) talk 11:08, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm 1 sec, maybe. Standby! -- Xaosflux (bar/foo) talk 11:10, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think the groups are still a mess, but adding both of these should work for you - try it out? -- Xaosflux (foo/bar) talk 11:14, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Would like to have some comments on Thingofme's edits. Seems to violate Wikipedia:What Test Wiki is not. Minorax (talk) 16:14, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Minorax: they mostly look like things not really related to performing tests. I see you left them a talk page - if they keep creating pages without explanation I can look in to it more. There COULD be some legitimate test reason for these so I didn't nuke them yet (that and they do have a multi-project account that also make mostly trivial, but not "harmful" edits elsewhere). -- Xaosflux (foo/bar) talk 16:54, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Been a week, still creating pages w/o reply to talk page. Minorax (talk) 05:21, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Minorax: blocked; note left, nuked a bunch of pages (probably not worth cleaning up the others). -- Xaosflux (bar/foo) talk 11:28, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How we will see unregistered users

[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Tidying up the 'crats

[edit]

Hey Xaosflux, just happened across this comment of yours—might it be worth going through the list and de-crat-ing those who are inactive xwiki? -- TNT (talk • she/her) 14:05, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Or maybe the user rights in general need a tidy.. got a couple of IAs who haven't edited here in a few years -- TNT (talk • she/her) 14:11, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@TheresNoTime I do them from time to time, think I got everyone that is 'globally inactive' recently; - just removed 3 intadmins, though 2 are still crats and can just regrant themselves. -- Xaosflux (bar/foo) talk 14:41, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Extending admin rights

[edit]

Hi Xaosflux, thanks for you help last time, but I just noticed my admin rights are due to expire next month and due to being unexpectedly busy this year, I would still need the permissions going forward for the next three to six months at least. If you could extend the expiry date, that would be great. Thanks again, Ed6767 (talk) 21:47, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
